Listening with Irving Penn

Adaptation of “Collapse (1980)” , 2015, analog photograph

Two Irving Penn´s still lifes from 1980: “Arrangement of 15 pieces” and “Collapse”, defined my idealisation of “still” over “moving” image when I was first exposed to them 20 years ago.

I consider these works as tone setting pieces…

When Penn´s use of soft light with hard edge dictates the idea of collapse into physical inanimate arrangement of gravity and rhyme.

My braking down of it into form and line, adapts the approach of temporal rebuilding just with shadowless light,

into different cadence of colour; like notes in space, like sound..

Yet still
