Before and after the Desert

There is a life before and after the desert. My first visit to North American desert in Arizona and New Mexico was nothing less than life changing. In terms of sensing the space and being exposed to the scale of “wide open”, the closest thing to describe it, is a weird sculptural void, without any reflections and echoless limbo where silence is material. Terrifying and comfortable at the same time.

This happened 1998 when I was working for Mr. R. Schultz. He is also to credit for this image of me in situ. R, bless you my man, you changed my life.
