The Presence Before Him

“Abstract presence immobilising David Salle” (2016)

“The presence before him was a presence.” Visioned Henry James

As a phenomenal combination of physical and spiritual, the presence could be the unexpected encounter with an idea,

or something of the manifestation of a memory as shapeshifting matrix,

or perhaps like the ghost of Banquo who came to haunt Machbeth proposing the forthcoming?

But it is specific fact or state of being present. Being charmed even. The presence is maybe something to be felt just a moment before the change.

For Henry James it echoed the impressionism and rising perception.

By veiling the portrait of David Salle with abstract idea is both poetry and horror, personal and general and intuitional and extrinsic affair of presence and  absence.

The Presence is undefined hope against hope in existence.
